Pizza Loop vs Square
Square is simple. Pizza needs more.
Square for Restaurants is a great budget pick for tiny operations. But pizza throws it curveballs — half-and-half pies, size-by-topping matrix pricing, delivery zone rules, multi-location — that Square handles with workarounds or not at all. Pizza Loop is built for pizza.

Square’s real strength
Square built its reputation on being easy. Sign up online, get a card reader in the mail, take payments in an hour. For a food truck, coffee cart, or single-owner pizza shop just getting started, Square works fine.
Where it breaks is when pizza operations get complex. Pizza is a business of modifiers, sizes, delivery logistics, and repeat customers. Every one of those needs proper support at the POS layer.
Where Pizza Loop wins
Half-and-half is a first-class concept. In Square, half-and-half is a modifier stack — you’re basically telling the register “large pizza + left half pepperoni + right half sausage” as a chain of choices. The kitchen ticket prints the modifier list. Under pressure, that gets read wrong and a wrong pizza goes out.
In Pizza Loop, half-and-half is a distinct action. The ticket says “1/2 pepperoni · 1/2 sausage” cleanly. Pricing rules apply automatically.
Delivery is designed for pizza economics. Square lets you set one delivery radius and one fee. Pizza Loop lets you set multiple zones with their own minimum-order values, drive-time caps, and per-zone fees. So delivery to Zone A (0-2 miles) requires a $20 order and $2 fee, Zone B (2-4 miles) requires $30 and $5, Zone C (4-6 miles) requires $40 and $8. That’s how real pizza shops actually price delivery.
Customer app matters. Square doesn’t offer a branded mobile app — your customers order through Square’s generic checkout page. Pizza Loop ships a full iOS + Android app under your brand. Reorder in one tap. Loyalty balance visible. Push notifications for Boost promotions. This is a real retention lever.
Marketing is inside the system. Square Loyalty is separate from Square Marketing is separate from Square Online. Pizza Loop unifies all of it. Your loyalty members can be targeted by Boost SMS. Your online orders trigger review-request flows. Your ad performance rolls up into the same dashboard as your sales.
Where Square still wins
Two things:
- Absolute lowest entry price. Square Free POS is $0/mo. Pizza Loop’s Starter is $497/mo. If you’re just testing the water on a pizza concept and volume is low, Square is objectively cheaper for month 1.
- Massive integration ecosystem. Square’s marketplace has hundreds of pre-built app integrations. We have fewer today.
For serious pizza shops, both trade off against the operational depth Pizza Loop provides.
The switch is easy
Square exports are clean CSVs. We ingest your menu, customer list, and 12 months of order history in a few hours. Hardware you’re using with Square (iPads, Square Terminal, receipt printer) — most of it works with Pizza Loop unchanged. The Square hardware you can’t repurpose (Square Register, custom stands) we replace as part of the launch fee.
Typical switch timeline: 2 weeks including staff training. Zero downtime.
