Pizza Loop

Pizza Loop vs Toast

Everything Toast charges extra for — included.

Toast built a solid restaurant POS, but pizza shops end up paying for four separate add-ons to get a system that actually fits their shop. Pizza Loop bundles all of it — loyalty, marketing, multi-location, AI, payments — in the base price. Zero long-term contract, zero hardware lock-in, one integrated payment platform.

Why pizza shops switch from Toast

1
Toast's fees creep up every year — Pizza Loop's per-location price is flat and covers everything
2
Toast hardware won't come with you if you leave — Pizza Loop hardware bundles into your setup fee and stays yours
3
Toast forces you into their payments AND their hardware — Pizza Loop Payments is included and competitive
4
Toast charges for loyalty, marketing, and multi-location — Pizza Loop includes them
5
Toast's half-and-half and modifier logic is workaround-heavy — Pizza Loop is built for pizza natively
6
Toast has no built-in slow-day promotion engine — Pizza Loop's Boost fires SMS + push + Meta ads with one tap

The honest read on Toast for pizza shops

Toast is a well-built full-service restaurant POS. If you run a table-service concept with waitstaff, a bar, and no delivery, Toast works fine. Pizza shops are a different animal — and that’s where the friction shows up.

Pizza is a modifier-heavy, delivery-heavy, volume-driven business. Half-and-half pies. Size-by-topping matrix pricing. Delivery zone rules with different minimums per zone. Ingredient-level inventory that decrements every time you send a pepperoni to the oven. Toast handles some of these, but it takes workarounds — modifier stacking, third-party integrations, or add-on modules.

Then there’s the money. Toast’s published pricing starts at $69/month for the base POS, but most pizza shops end up paying $200-400/month once you add Toast Loyalty, Toast Marketing, Toast Online Ordering, and the payment-processing spread. Multi-year contracts and Toast-branded hardware you can’t take with you compound the switching cost.

Where Pizza Loop wins

One monthly bill. POS, kitchen display, online ordering, loyalty, inventory, staff scheduling, and reporting are all in the base price. You don’t get nickel-and-dimed as your shop grows.

Pizza-native from day one. Half-and-half pizzas are a first-class concept, not a modifier hack. Size-by-topping pricing is a matrix, not a workaround. Delivery zones support minimums, drive-time caps, and per-zone fees out of the box.

No hardware lock-in. iPads you already own can run the POS and KDS. Pizza Loop reader for card-present. If you ever leave Pizza Loop, your hardware goes with you.

Marketing built in. Welcome Lane’s marketing team runs your Meta and Google ads out of the same system that sees your orders. Slow-day promotions happen in one tap through Boost. Review responses drafted by AI. That’s not “another vendor” — it’s the same platform.

What Toast still does better

We’re not going to pretend otherwise. Toast has more restaurant integrations than we do today (accounting, payroll, delivery marketplaces). Their enterprise reporting has years of polish on it. If you’re running a 20-location full-service group and you want a Rolodex of pre-built integrations, Toast is the safer pick.

If you’re running a single pizza shop or building toward a small franchise, Pizza Loop is the right tool.

Real per-location cost comparison

A typical single-location pizza shop paying Toast:

  • Toast POS: $69-165/mo
  • Toast Payments (2.49% + 15¢): $700-1200/mo on $50k monthly card volume
  • Toast Loyalty: $50/mo
  • Toast Marketing: $50/mo
  • Toast Online Ordering: $75/mo
  • Third-party inventory (MarketMan): $100/mo
  • Total software line: ~$300-400/mo before processing
  • Multi-year contract: yes

Pizza Loop:

  • Starter tier: $199/mo (all-in software), or Growth $399/mo, or Pro $699/mo
  • Pizza Loop Payments included: 3.2% + $0.05 in-person, 3.4% + $0.30 online
  • Marketing add-on: $1,000/mo optional (managed Meta + Google ads)
  • Contract: month-to-month, cancel any time

The picture: at similar volume, you replace Toast’s stack with one flat line item. When you add marketing, you’re paying more per month but getting managed ad management from Welcome Lane, which most Toast customers pay a separate agency for anyway.

How the switch works

We hear the same question from every operator considering the switch: how disruptive is this?

Answer: not very. Here’s the standard timeline:

  • Week 1: We rebuild your menu inside Pizza Loop from your Toast export. Half-and-half rules, sizing matrix, modifier groups, combo logic. You review + approve.
  • Week 2: Hardware arrives and gets configured — iPads, Pizza Loop card reader, receipt printer. Staff training happens on the counter after close.
  • Week 3: Parallel run. Both Toast and Pizza Loop are live for a shift or two. We monitor. Then you cut over, we archive Toast, done.

The whole switch fits inside your normal ops cadence. No week-long dark period. No lost sales.

FAQ: switching from Toast

Is Pizza Loop cheaper than Toast?
Pizza Loop's monthly price is per-location and bundles software, hardware setup, and marketing services in one line item. A typical pizza shop today pays about $760/month across five separate tools, before Toast add-ons for loyalty and marketing. Book a call for a custom quote against your Toast bill.
Can I keep my existing hardware if I switch from Toast?
In many cases yes. iPads and Stripe Terminal card readers work with Pizza Loop out of the box. Toast-branded proprietary terminals typically don't transfer, but we ship replacement hardware as part of the launch fee.
How long does the switch from Toast take?
About 2-3 weeks of overlap. Weeks 1-2, we build your menu, reconfigure hardware, train your staff. Week 3, both systems run in parallel for a couple of shifts, then Toast gets switched off. Zero downtime during the transition.
Will my sales history transfer?
Yes. As part of the setup fee, we export your customer list, menu, and 12 months of sales history from Toast and import into Pizza Loop so your reports show continuous data.
What if I need to switch back?
We export all your data at any time — customers, orders, menu, everything — as CSV or JSON. No lock-in on payment processor either; you can bring your own Stripe account.
